It all started with Mike.
He kept saying, “What do you think about stacking hay bales like a wedding cake?”
He never said he was going to do it — he just kept testing the waters. Every family get-together:
“I’m just saying… it could look pretty cool out by the field.”
By about the fifth time, everyone knew — whether we agreed or not, it was happening. 😂
Austin just smiled and said, “That’d be fine, Dad.” 💗 And that was all Mike needed to hear.
🚜 The Idea Takes Shape
Next thing we knew, the skid steer was fired up, and hay bales were rolling.
In true “Kingsland DIY” fashion, Mike tested his theory by having our son-in-law, Cole — a proud Marine 💪 — hang onto the bucket while he lifted him up to “the top tier of the cake” just to make sure it was stable and secure.
If that’s not commitment… we don’t know what is.
🎉 The Big Day
By the time wedding day arrived, the Hay Bale Wedding Cake stood tall and perfect — balanced, bold, and built from pure determination.
The groomsmen climbed it like a rock-concert stage. Mac the bulldog posed proudly at the bottom in his tux 🐶💍. And everyone laughed, because it was just so us.
We’ve seen hundreds of weddings here at Berkshire Ridge, but this one was something special.
It wasn’t a fondant masterpiece — it was a family project, full of creativity, humor, and heart.
It was country pride stacked high — a tribute to love, laughter, and a dad who refuses to do anything halfway.

It’s just a matter of when he fires up the tractor. 🚜💨
