How Much Does a Wedding Venue Cost in St. Louis? What Couples Should Know Before They Book
One of the most common questions couples ask when searching for a wedding venue is:
"How much does a wedding venue cost?" The answer is not as simple as comparing rental prices. One thing I've learned as the owner of Berkshire Ridge is that the cheapest venue is not always the least expensive option, and the most expensive venue is not always the best value. When comparing St. Louis wedding venues, I encourage couples to look beyond the advertised price and consider what is actually included, how the venue operates, and what kind of experience they will receive throughout the planning process.
Don't Compare Venue Prices. Compare Total Wedding Costs.
Many venues advertise an attractive rental fee, but the final cost can look very different once everything is added. I've had couples tell me they were surprised to learn about extra charges or restrictions after touring other venues.
Some examples include:
Additional charges for early access to the bridal suite
Separate fees for the ceremony site
Setup and cleanup fees
Charges for using a caterer outside an approved vendor list
Required food and beverage minimums
Mandatory vendor lists
Guest-count surcharges
Tables and chairs not included
At Berkshire Ridge, we chose a different approach. Our pricing includes what couples need so they can clearly understand their investment from the beginning. When comparing venues, ask for a complete breakdown of costs, not just the rental fee. The venue that appears to be less expensive may actually cost more once all the extras are added.
What Does a Wedding Venue Cost in the St. Louis Area?
While every venue is different, many couples can expect to invest somewhere between $4,000 and $18,000+ for a wedding venue in the St. Louis region, depending on:
Day of the week
Season
Guest count
What's included
Length of rental
Amenities
Some venues include nearly everything. Others have a lower rental fee but additional charges that can significantly increase the final cost.
What Couples Regret Spending Money On
After watching hundreds of weddings unfold, I've noticed a pattern. There are certain things couples spend a lot of money on that often don't make much difference on wedding day.
The most common regrets I hear are:
Expensive guest favors that are left behind on tables
Overly elaborate invitations
Certain decorative details that receive little attention from guests
Another surprise is entertainment.
While some live bands do an excellent job, many couples don't realize that an experienced wedding DJ often serves as the master of ceremonies—keeping the timeline moving, making announcements, coordinating vendors, and maintaining the flow of the evening.
What Couples Never Regret Spending Money On
There are also investments that couples almost never regret.
These are the things that continue providing value long after the wedding is over.
The items I consistently see couples appreciate most are:
Photography
Videography
A great DJ (MC )
Delicious food
A beautiful venue
If there is one thing I encourage couples not to skip, it is videography. Photos are priceless, but there is something incredibly special about hearing voices, seeing movement, reliving speeches, and watching moments unfold years later. A wedding video allows you to experience your wedding day again in a way that photographs simply cannot.
Customer Service Matters More Than Most Couples Realize
When choosing a venue, don't just choose a beautiful property. Choose the experience. One of the compliments I receive most often from couples is how quickly I respond to emails, phone calls, and text messages. To me, communication is not an extra service. It's part of the what I want to offer. If you're having trouble getting responses before you've even booked a tour, pay attention. In my experience, communication problems rarely improve after contracts are signed. Planning a wedding can be stressful enough. Couples deserve vendors who are available, responsive, and invested in helping them succeed.
Unlimited Access Has Been One of the Greatest Blessings
One thing that makes Berkshire Ridge unique is that couples have direct access to me throughout the planning process.
Over the years, this has become one of the greatest blessings for both our couples and for me.
Because of that ongoing communication:
I learn their vision
I understand their priorities
I can offer suggestions based on experience
They can visit the venue when needed
Problems are solved before they become stressful
By wedding day, I often know the couple well. I know their priorities, their concerns, their families, and the vision they've spent months creating. That relationship allows me to anticipate needs before they become problems. I'm not simply opening a building and turning on lights. I'm helping bring a vision to life… a vision that we've been discussing for months. That relationship matters.
What You're Really Paying For
Many couples assume they are renting a venue. What they're actually investing in is experience. Experience shows up in ways that don't appear on a pricing sheet.
Over the years, I've:
Helped save a wedding dress when no one knew how to bustle it
Ran a forgotten bouquet to a bride before photos and her grand exit
Fixed blisters so a bride could enjoy her reception
Helped with suit malfunctions
Pinned boutonnieres
Made emergency supply runs when important items were forgotten
One wedding, a grandfather fainted during the ceremony. We quietly helped him, called 911, and kept the situation calm and discreet so the ceremony could continue without panic or disruption. Most guests never knew what happened. The best part? Grandpa was doing well enough to return before the end of the reception. Those are the moments couples rarely think about when comparing venue prices. But they matter.
Experience isn't something you notice when everything goes perfectly. It's something you appreciate when something unexpected happens. Weddings are live events, and almost every wedding has at least one surprise. Having someone there who has seen it before—and knows how to solve it calmly—can make all the difference.
My Advice If You're Comparing Wedding Venues
When evaluating venues, ask yourself:
What is included in the price?
Are there hidden fees?
How responsive is the venue?
Who will actually be there on wedding day?
Can I communicate with someone when I need help?
Does the venue have experience solving problems?
Do I feel confident trusting them with one of the biggest days of my life?
The answers to those questions often matter more than the rental fee itself.
Final Thoughts
After hosting so many weddings, I've learned that the true cost of a wedding venue is not found in the advertised price. It's found in the experience, service, communication, support, and peace of mind that venue provides. A beautiful venue is important. But a beautiful venue combined with exceptional service, honest pricing, experience, and someone who genuinely cares about your day is where the real value is found. When your wedding day arrives, you'll remember how everything felt. And that's worth investing in.
One message from a Berkshire Ridge couple perfectly captures what I hope every couple experiences:
“THANK YOU. Truly, thank you. When we were looking for venues, you were the reason we picked Berkshire Ridge. Knowing you would be there to help us with our day was what sealed the deal. That, and your connection with Andre’s (which by the way they were incredible) made it sooooo easy - a total no brainer. Yes, your space is GORGEOUS and way prettier than other venues we looked at, but you are the main reason we picked Berkshire Ridge! So thank you thank you thank you!!!! We could not have had a better day!” Courtney and Cory
As beautiful as Berkshire Ridge is, feedback like this means more to me than anything else. It reminds me that couples aren't just choosing a venue. They're choosing the people who will help guide them through one of the biggest days of their lives.
